Germany: tiered online slot stake limits reported from 1 July 2026

Trade press reported that from 1 July 2026 the €1 per-spin limit on online slots in Germany would be replaced by a tiered system. The reports cite the gambling authority, the GGL, but we have not seen the rule text itself, so the details below should be read as reported rather than confirmed.

The reported tiers

  • Players under 21: the limit stays at €1 per spin.
  • Players aged 21 and over: up to €3 per spin.
  • Players with no risk indicators in the previous 90 days: up to €5 per spin.

Whether a particular player can reach a higher tier depends on the operator, which has to apply the checks and, according to the reports, monitor behaviour before and after any increase. Nothing in the reports suggests that the limits rise automatically.

What a stake limit does and does not change

A stake limit sits above the game. It changes the largest bet a player may place, but it does not change the RTP, the volatility or the rules of any slot. For Sweet Bonanza this has one practical consequence. Every version states its maximum win as a multiple of the stake, for example 21,175× in the original and 25,000× in Sweet Bonanza 1000 and 2500. A multiple of a larger stake is a larger amount, but reaching the cap remains very rare in every version.

A higher stake also uses a session budget faster. A budget that lasts 100 spins at €1 lasts only 20 spins at €5, and the games in this family are high-volatility, so long stretches without a notable result are normal. If you play in Germany, the limit you set for yourself before starting matters more than the limit the operator applies.

What to check

Operators in Germany also apply other rules, such as deposit limits and mandatory spin intervals, and which features are offered depends on the operator’s licence. Look at the game’s information screen for the current stake range, and at the operator’s terms for the tier that applies to you. We will update this item if the authority’s text confirms or changes the figures above.
